Bill Clinton will campaign for his wife, the Democratic front-runner, in Iowa this Saturday, prior to the Jefferson-Jackson dinner, along with pop star Katy Perry.
This is the first time since Clinton announced her candidacy in New York City on June 13 that the 42nd president will join her on the campaign trail. Early on in the 2016 campaign, Hillary’s staff said that Bill would refrain from taking on an overly public role.
But as the controversy surrounding former secretary of state’s private email server heated up earlier this month, the former president took to cable news to speak on his wife’s behalf. Bill Clinton has also appeared at several fundraisers for his wife in the past month. Most recently, he accompanied Hillary to the first Democratic debate in Las Vegas, but did not make any public appearances.
All five major Democratic presidential candidates will appear at the Jefferson-Jackson dinner in Des, Moines on Sunday. Bill Clinton’s appearance will be at the rally prior to the event, where he will be joined by pop star Katy Perry, a longtime Clinton supporter. Perry’s hit song “Roar” is featured prominently at each campaign event for the former secretary of state.
Sources close to Vice President Joe Biden now say that he may make his long awaited decision about entering the democratic primary on Saturday night, in order to attend the dinner with the other democratic contenders.
