A reporter covering the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) protest last week claims that he was physically abused by the protesting teachers while he was in the crowd.
EAGnews journalist Jeremy Segal was covering the protest in downtown Chicago when suddenly a teacher and two organizers approached and began attacking him as he was interviewing the Rev. Jesse Jackson.
“[They began] grabbing me by my arms and shoulders, pushing me, roughing me up and dragging me down the street away from Jackson and the CTU President Karen Lewis,” Segal said. “The attack turned truly bizarre when CTU organizer Martin Ritter was grabbing my body and started to shout at the crowd, ‘This guy has a tiny penis’.”
The protest took place in light of the announcement last month that the school district will close 54 schools this summer. Teachers from all 54 of those schools participated in the protest.
Segal also captured footage of a man claiming to be a member of the Tea Party objecting to him taping the protest. Although the woman who saw the assault on Segal was denied the opportunity to take part in the video by the protest’s organizers, she was able convince Chicago police officers to arrest Ritter and the other organizer on battery charges; however, the teacher involved in the incident got off scot-free.
Segal also reported that the CTU admitted to training its members on civil disobedience techniques with “Professor Occupy” Lisa Fithian.
Now if only the Chicago Police Department could arrest real criminals, then Chicago wouldn’t be considered one of the most dangerous cities in America.
