“This time last year everyone was positive it was going to be Hillary Clinton, she was a lock,” Colbert said. “But she’s still reeling from getting trounced by Bernie Sanders in New Hampshire last week. Bernie won 83 percent of young voters, the only group that Hillary Clinton won were voters over 65.”
“She may not have won New Hampshire but she definitely won old Hampshire,” Colbert joked.
The comedian mocked Clinton’s attempt to get back in favor with young voters including an ad on AOL.com.
“Her team is nimble, they responded, they sprung into action and they reached out to young people immediately on the youth-friendly social network, America Online,” Colbert said.
He said that Clinton’s new campaign slogan can be the sound of a dialup tone.
“AOL is where all the cool kids go to update their Geocities page,” Colbert said. “I cannot wait to see how they appeal to the youths next, maybe handout some leaflets at bingo night or team up with Netflix to sponsor a Murder She Wrote reunion.”
