Edward Snowden joins Twitter, follows the NSA

Edward Snowden created a Twitter account (@Snowden) on Tuesday and gained 136,000 followers within an hour.

Snowden only follows one account, however — the NSA.

It is probably the most notable follow-for-follow situation on Twitter.

Snowden’s first tweet was a general question to gauge his impact: “Can you hear me now?”

Since May 2013, Snowden has lived outside the United States, mostly in Russia at an undisclosed location. The Russian government granted him temporary asylum.

Snowden’s disclosure of classified information about the NSA that divulged intense surveillance programs has left him wary of returning to the United States or traveling to a country that would extradite him to the United States.
