New Jersey’s strict gun control laws have cost one defenseless woman her life.
According to The Blaze, Carole Bowne of Berlin Township, N.J., feared for her life. She filed a restraining order on her ex-boyfriend and convicted felon Michael Eitel, installed security cameras around her home, and applied for a gun permit.
Eitel had been threatening her, even breaking her car windows.
Bowne followed the letter of the law, but all of the red tape slowed the process down too much to help her.
In an interview with the Courier-Post, Berlin Police Chief Leonard Check said that the process to obtain a handgun license can take about two months or longer.
Bowne applied for a handgun on April 21. She followed up last Monday, June 1, and was murdered two days later.
Police discovered her lifeless body in her driveway with multiple stab wounds.
Eitel subsequently committed suicide in another ex-girlfriend’s garage, according to NJ.com.
On Sunday, two dozen members of the New Jersey Second Amendment Society held a demonstration in front of the home of state Senate President Steve Sweeney’s home. They held up signs with Bowne’s picture on them and demanded an end to New Jersey’s draconian gun restrictions, according to Save Jersey.
