As a former intern of U.S. Senator Marco Rubio, I cannot support my old boss. Let me first make clear that my time as his intern was good, and the staff people I worked with during that time were great. I respected everyone from his camp on a personal level and would not trade the experience.

These things being said, I strongly believe his place is in Senate, not the White House. In my opinion, his past progressive tendencies take away from his “conservative” campaigning. Rubio has eloquence and charm; he is a very talented politician; he is a people person, good at fundraising, speaks clearly and effectively — and compared to others he comes across as refreshing.
My contentions with Rubio are the following: His articulate speaking ability and dressed-well appearance do not change his positions on amnesty, social authoritarianism, perpetual foreign intervention, NSA spying, big federal spending, mixed market economy, and central power authority over states rights. The Right can do better, and frankly deserves someone whose record matches the same rhetoric.
I am stating my strong opposition to a Rubio bid because I want to caution that he is not the only “reasonable” candidate or “winner” in the race. In 2008 and 2012 we lost by nominating his kind. Don’t forget that. Don’t forget how the Reagan Revolution was hated by Washington D.C. and recognize that the Senator’s “New American Century” talk is at home there. I also fear that Rubio too is beholden to certain special interests, as most politicians are.
If you love perpetual war and intrusive government, if you are interested in continuing the failed drug policies this country has in place that disproportionately affect minorities and people of color, if you enjoy seeing personal liberty trashed by majority rule and the executive, and if you don’t want deportations of illegal aliens, Marco may be your guy. Vote for him if you want more of the same because that’s what you can expect.
It would benefit me to have the next president’s name on my resume. In this case, I do not want it, respectfully.
