Jon Stewart: ‘Will Senate Democrats retain control?’ Audience: ‘Yeah!’ clap clap clap

There was a segment on “The Daily Show” Thursday night ostensibly about the wackiness of Senate races across the country — really, it was just an opportunity to highlight crazy TV ads and hear Jon Stewart do his Mitch McConnell impersonation — but an audience flub sort of stole the show.

“Although Congress is viewed slightly less favorably than that moment you smell vomit — you know you’re about to vomit, but you have not yet vomited — almost every incumbent is still gonna win their race, especially in the House. Which means all eyes are on the Senate,” Stewart teased. “Will the Democrats retain control?”

An audience reaction prompted this:

“Obviously, some in the audience tonight not familiar with the rhetorical question.”

When Stewart eventually said that Democrats retaining control of the Senate was the subject of the evening’s Democalypse 2014 segment “It’s All about that Base,” the crowd, natch, “woo’d!” as if Cory and Topanga had just made out.

Your periodic reminder of Stewart’s own base. Not that it’s a secret.
