Neil Young to Obama on climate change: ‘Wake up, buddy!’

Neil Young isn’t very happy with Democrats, and President Obama in particular.

In an in-depth interview with Howard Stern, the musician talked politics and specifically hit President Obama for not doing enough to prevent harm to the environment after promising to do so when he got elected.

“Although we have this huge thing in the acceptance speech back there in Chicago — you know, ‘I’m going to take on climate change’ and everything — it really … Obama just opened up the Gulf of Mexico to fracking for all the oil companies and gave all the rights away,” asserted Young.

“I just don’t see the prescience, I don’t see the wisdom in that,” he added.

Young also said there is no politician — not even Hillary Clinton — that he sees eye-to-eye with, describing all lawmakers as “tainted.”

“None of them are empowered by the system that is here now to do anything other than take money from corporations and be controlled,” explained Young, expressing his disapproval of Citizens United, the campaign finance law which the musician said allows big business to control politicians.

Then, Young tore into Obama again for his false promise to confront and help environmental issues.

“Isn’t that what Barack Obama said?” Young added. “‘Change’ and ‘hope’ and all of that? And he’s fracking the Gulf of Mexico. Hello, Barack! Wake up, buddy!”
