Celebs and progressives line up for first post-Trump election in April

On April 18th, Georgia’s 6th Congressional District will hold the first competitive election since Donald Trump was elected president. Celebrities and progressives activist are trying to a new leaf and score a big win in a traditionally Republican district.

“Covert Affairs” actor Christopher Gorham and “Charmed” star Alyssa Milano tweeted that they are picking up voters and driving them to the polls to cast their early ballot for Democrat Jon Ossoff.

The seat belonged to Tom Price before he took the job as Secretary of Health and Human Services and even though it’s been historically Republican, Democrats believe it’s trending blue. Trump barely won the 6th district. Meanwhile, Romney clobbered Obama in 2012.

Georgia’s election law states that if any candidate doesn’t make the 50 percent threshold during the first election, they have to have a runoff. Polling shows that no matter who the Republicans nominate, the election is going to be close with Ossoff leading within the margin of error.

Daily Kos, the powerful progressive grassroots organization, has poured hundreds of thousands of dollars and countless man hours trying to flip the seat from Republican to Democrat.

Flipping a congressional seat in a special election isn’t an easy feat. The last time it occurred was in 2011 when Republican Bob Turner won disgraced former Rep. Anthony Weiner’s seat in New York City.

Still, unless grassroots Republicans start getting active fast, Trump and the House GOP will face yet another setback.
