The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers: Romney ‘wasn’t a great ambassador’ for Mormonism

Somebody Told Me … Brandon Flowers has a bone to pick with Mitt Romney.

The lead singer of the band The Killers in a recent interview with The Daily Beast criticized the former GOP presidential nominee for avoiding questions about his Mormon faith ahead of the 2012 election.

Why does Flowers even care? The rocker is actually himself a Mormon, having committed to Mormonism in his 20s after marrying and starting a family. In fact, his band even hosted a private lunch with Romney back in 2011.

In particular, Flowers suggested that Romney was a poor “ambassador” for the faith as he was making his presidential bid.

“It’s still a very misunderstood thing,” the singer said of the faith. “There’s weird rumors, and somebody just needs to clear it up! I think Romney would even admit that he wasn’t a great ambassador for it. His answers weren’t great, and it made it even worse; it seemed like he was hiding something.”

“But there’s really nothing to hide,” Flowers added. “You can find out what you need to find out! It’s all there.”

The singer spent much of the interview discussing his upcoming solo album “The Desired Effect” but insisted that The Killers — of “Mr. Brightside” fame — will continue to make their sweet music despite Flowers’ budding solo career.

“No, everything is cool!” he explained. “This is born out of them wanting to take breaks, so this isn’t, ‘Hey guys, I want to make a solo album so find something else to do for two years.’ This is them saying, ‘We want to take a break.'”
