Colbert tries to be interested in the midterm elections

There are a lot of tedious things Stephen Colbert doesn’t like to do in the autumn, like clean the gutters and pretend to like decorative gourds. But, he informed viewers Monday night, “The most tedious autumn chore of all is covering the midterm elections.”

This season is particularly exciting, Colbert noted, since “The Democrats are drawing a clear difference between them and their arch-nemesis, Barack Obama.” This leaves only Michelle, “the popular Obama,” on the campaign trail.

Colbert proceeded to poke fun at the first lady, who called Iowa Democratic Senate candidate Bruce Braley by the wrong name six or seven times while speaking at his campaign event last weekend.

“Folks, this just proves even the first lady isn’t paying attention to the midterms,” Colbert cracked.
