Jon Stewart demands Colbert be fired over #pointergate

Jon Stewart finally got around to commenting on possibly the most absurd local news story of the year.

Remember when a white Minneapolis mayor innocently posed for a photo pointing at a black man, and the Minneapolis police and media freaked out because they thought it was a gang sign?

The story quickly went viral, known on Twitter as #pointergate.

“All this time I’ve been the lead-in for a notorious gang member,” Stewart exclaimed, displaying a picture of Stephen Colbert using the same “gang sign.”

“I want that guy gone by the end of the year!” Stewart declared.

In the original news report, a Minneapolis police officer said the mayor has “been around enough, she knows better.”

“C’mon! She’s held elected office since 2005, whereas pointing as a gesture only goes back to– literally the very first form of human communication,” Stewart joked, showing a screenshot of a ScienceDaily headline, “Pointing is infants’ first communicative gesture.”

Stewart noted that the mayor had previously criticized police conduct in her city, and suggested that the police tip to the news station may have been their own very special “sign” to the mayor: one that involves the middle finger.
