With Coachella 2014’s first weekend coming to an end, Saturday Night Live decided to tie in pop culture with the wannabe-hip Republican Party.
In the SNL cold open, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) and former Gov. Jeb Bush (R-Fla.) took to the main stage at Coachella to introduce the ‘New Republican Party.’ Ryan started by asking young conservatives to make some noise — which was met by complete silence from the audience. And sadly, things just got worse from there.
Ryan and Bush then tried to connect to the young audience by using words and phrases such as “ratchet,” “home slices” and even ragging on former President George W. Bush.
“Now when you think of the old GOP, you probably think of George W. Bush,” the former Florida Governor said.
“Talk about a basic bitch,” Ryan chimed in with a laugh.
“I agree,” Bush said. “And I’m his brother.”
The two tried to sell the crowd on policy issues and attempted to connect with them, to no avail. Even the appearance of Gov. Bobby Jindal (R-La.) rolling on Molly and Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) on the turn tables couldn’t liven up the crowd.
And there you have it: The GOP’s youth problem in a nutshell.
