The folks at Saturday Night Live’s writing room are celebrating Christmas two and a half months early this year after they were gifted with another Donald Trump controversy.
In Saturday’s cold open, the SNL cast spearheaded Trump’s comments in which he bragged about grabbing women “by the p***y” on a hot mic to Billy Bush on Access Hollywood in 2005.
The sketch opened with the Vice Presidential debate (remember that happened this past week?) where Tim Kaine went after Mike Pence over Donald Trump’s remarks about women. Pence responded by saying Trump never said anything demeaning towards women.
Immediately following Pence’s defense of Trump, the sketch cuts to a CNN Breaking News segment where Trump (played by Alec Baldwin) joins CNN host Brooke Baldwin (Cecily Strong) to “apologize” for his comments on sexual assault.
“I was trying to look cool,” Trump said to Baldwin. “What normal red-blooded American doesn’t want to impress the Billy Bush?”
He continued by apologizing to those offended by his remarks, and even apologized to “the people who were turned on by them, I hear it’s really 50/50.”
The sketch continued with getting raw reaction from Hillary Clinton (Kate McKinnon) cutting to her dancing with a group of supporters and popping champagne.
“It’s a very, very sad day for our country and for all women, minus one,” Clinton said, winking and then busted out into her trademark shimmy she did during the first presidential debate.
When asked by Baldwin whether Trump should drop out of the race, Clinton immediately cut off Baldwin, “NO, no, no, no! Give him a shot.”
