Message from Sony hackers mocks FBI: ‘You are an idiot’

A new message from a group claiming to be the Sony hackers Guardians of Peace belittles the FBI, linking to a 2006 Youtube video proclaiming “you are an idiot!” along with music, crude animation, and a brief flash of Japanese words.

The message was posted on the anonymous site Pastebin over the weekend:

The result of investigation by FBI is so excellent that you might have seen what we were doing with your own eyes.

We congratulate you success.

FBI is the BEST in the world.

You will find the gift for FBI at the following address.

The cryptic message, which may or may not be genuine, offers no clues as to what the hackers might do next.

A number of online hacker groups and security experts reject the FBI’s claim that North Korea was behind the Sony hack, the Daily Beast reports. They argue that Pyongyang is not technically sophisticated enough to pull off such an effective attack.

North Korea has denied any involvement, calling U.S. blame “an attempt to frame us for this crime” and claiming it has “clear evidence that the U.S. administration was deeply involved in the making of such dishonest reactionary movie.”

The Obama administration has promised a proportional response to the attack, which it has chosen to characterize as “cybervandalism.”

Someone claiming to represent the hacktivist group Anonymous also posted over the weekend, writing that “we all know the hacks didn’t come from North Korea,” and threatening to unleash their own cyberattack on Sony unless they release “The Interview.”

Sony has promised to release “The Interview” at some point, but has not yet disclosed when or how.
