Dr. Phil steps in to mend relationship between Putin and Obama

“Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon found the best way to describe Russian President Vladimir Putin and President Barack Obama’s relationship: A husband and wife. And Fallon has enlisted the help of Dr. Phil in working out the kinks in their union.

Fallon revisted President Obama’s contentious relationship with Putin in a “Tonight Show” skit on Thursday. But this time, he brought in reinforcements in the form of psychologist and television personality Dr. Phil — and took some subtle jabs at President Obama.

“Things between you two, let’s just say they’ve been chilly for some time now. Talk to me, guys. Talk to me. Are you guys even communicating?” Dr. Phil asks the world leaders.

As the duo talk with Dr. Phil, it becomes abundantly clear Putin (played by Fallon) takes on the role of the husband, while Obama (played by Dion Flynn) assumes the position of the unhappy wife.

Obama tells Dr. Phil he’s the one who’s “always reaching out” while his calls and texts to Putin go unanswered.

“You’re smothering me, ok,” the Russian president tells Obama. “I go to sleep. I wake up with 20 text messages from this guy. It’s like he’s a teenage girl, and I’m James Franco.”

Putin admits he’s been a bit wrapped up with “Game of Thrones” — not the television show, though, but his life. [Hint, hint: Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.]

“See, that’s the problem right there,” Obama laments. “He keeps putting up walls and it’s like I try and I try, and I just can’t get through.”

“You mean like Obamacare website?” Putin quips.

Dr. Phil then asks the two to dig deep and show their inner “little boys” — Little Barry and Little Vlady Poo-Poo.

While Putin maintains a strong front, President Obama breaks down into loud, audible sobs.

“Oh what the hell?” Dr. Phil exclaims. “Group hug.”
