Lena Dunham has finally broken her silence regarding a controversial comment tweeted by fellow comedian Lisa Lampanelli during the Writers Guild Awards last Sunday night, in which Lampanelli calls the “Girls” star the ‘n’ word.
“Me with my n—a @LenaDunham of @HBOGirls – I love this beyotch!” Lampanelli tweeted.
Dunham’s response this morning was addressed to writer Shalya Pierce, who has written several stories this week attacking Dunham for staying silent on the issue.
@shayladpierce Perhaps I should have addressed it, but the fact is I’ve learned that twitter debates breed more twitter debates.

@shayladpierce But 140 characters will never be enough for the kind of dialogue that will actually help us address issues of race and class.

Fortunately for Dunham, Pierce was quick to forgive and forget.
Thank you so much. And I do <3 you and your work. Thanks for addressing this *hugsies* @lenadunham

This is not the “first time” the “Girls” creator has been caught in controversy. Dunham was the star of the Obama campaign’s “Your First Time” ad where she compared voting for Barack Obama to losing one’s virginity.
As for Lampanelli, she isn’t off the hook just yet. She’s still taking a lot of heat on Twitter for her careless use of the ‘n’ word, but the comedienne still has yet to delete the tweet.
