Have you ever dreamed of flying like McFly in “Back to the Future II”? Well, for $10,000, you can have your chance.
The company Arx Pax of Los Gatos, California, is currently offering “the world’s first REAL hoverboard” on Kickstarter for $10,000. The brains at Arx Pax are looking for supporters in the Kickstarter community to provide them with $250,000 to “put the finishing touches” on the “Hendo Hoverboard.”
Of course, movie fans will immediately think of Michael J. Fox’s character Marty McFly in the 1989 flick “Back to the Future II.” In the film, McFly takes a trip on a hoverboard in the fictional year of 2015.
The Arx Pax device hovers only on special surfaces and is powered by magnets. The hoverboard, which is the 18th prototype the company has developed, lifts its passengers about one inch above the ground and can shoulder up to about 300 pounds.
“While the possibilities are both exciting and nearly limitless, we decided to build a hoverboard prototype and hover engine developer kits right out of the gate,” explained the company’s founder, Greg Henderson. “It is still early days, but we are absolutely thrilled because we have proven conclusively that what was widely considered impossible is, in fact, possible.”
Currently, four individuals have each pledged $10,000 in order to obtain one of the 10 Arx Pax production hoverboards, meaning there are only six left for grabs.
Individuals interested in the hoverboard endeavor need not fork over thousands to support the company’s cause. One can pledge as little as five dollars to the Kickstarter campaign.
Currently, Arx Pax has 271 backers and over $70,000 toward its goal of $250,000.
