A Las Vegas man selling a “Shoot Cops” shirt says it’s about filming the police, but the police don’t agree.
Designer Francisco Carbajal uses shock value to market shirts, and this one has an image of a police squadron approaching a woman with a camera, Mediaite reported.
In an interview with Las Vegas Now, Las Vegas Metro retired Police Lieutenant Randy Sutton criticized the shirt.
“Somehow, it became socially acceptable within the last year or so to be disrespectful to a police officer,” he said.
“We’re not promoting violence,” Carbajal told KLAS-TV. “Our message is simple. Pull out your phone and record any interaction with a police officer.”
“I see these kids and they’re like, ‘Yeah, eff the cops.’ I’m like, no, no, no young brother. That’s not what we’re saying here. We have full respect for all police officers,” he said. “Here is this message, and what I want you to get out of it is inform yourself.”
Sutton dismissed Carbajal’s defense of the shirt as “garbage.”
Carbajal plans to promote information to the public about the rights people have when interacting with police.
