Former House Speaker John Boehner made headlines when he said he would support nominating current Speaker Paul Ryan for president if the Republicans have an open convention. However, Stephen Colbert had a message for Boehner on Thursday’s episode of The Late Show: “Paul Ryan can’t fix everything.”

“There is a party elder everyone respects and it’s John Boehner…who thinks we should make Paul Ryan do it,” Colbert said.

Colbert pointed out that the Speaker already took a job he didn’t want.

“Oh John Boehner, Paul Ryan already got into one sticky situation by agreeing to succeed you as Speaker of the House when no one else wanted the job,” Colbert continued. “That doesn’t mean Paul Ryan can be your go-to flunky for everything.”

Colbert said that Boehner uses Ryan as a way to get out of any chore he doesn’t want to do himself, from attending boring dinner parties to helping someone move their furniture.
