60 Minutes: Obamacare just transfers cost burden onto taxpayers

Marking one year since the launch of Obamacare, CBS’s “60 Minutes” fact-checked claims about the program during Sunday’s episode and found that for the most part, it has done nothing but transfer the burden onto taxpayers.

“If there is a piece of data that comes out that says that the galloping increase in cost of some aspect of healthcare has started galloping a little less, it’s touted as the cost is going down. It’s just ridiculous,” Steven Brill, an author with a new investigative book on the healthcare law, said on the show.

He said Obama claims to have lowered the cost of healthcare, but that was “neglected” in this law.

“Obamacare is a government takeover of healthcare, that’s what the Republicans say. Obamacare is the opposite of a government takeover of healthcare,” Brill said. “Obamacare is the taxpayers intervening to pay the private sector for their already inflated prices that they charge for healthcare.”
