S.E. Cupp warns the media is waging war on Christianity

Pundit S.E. Cupp, author of Losing Our Religion: The Liberal Media’s Attack on Christianity, think the old media has an  agenda to silence and marginalize Christianity in America.

“When you have Newsweek devotes its Easter issue to a cover story announcing the decline and fall of Christian America on Easter and no one is outraged, you know it’s gotten bad,” Cupp said Friday morning at the Faith and Freedom Conference.

Cupp would be more likely to dismiss this as part of a liberal political agenda were not for what she sees as a concerted attack by the media on Christian values.

“And because they are attacking the values of about 80 percent of the country, they really are not mainstream anymore,” Cupp said.

Much of the media is completely ignorant of the intersection between faith and policy, evidenced by the New York Times’ CNN anchor Anderson Cooper’s dismissal of the connection between Jeremiah Wright’s black liberation theology and Barack Obama’s politics.

This contrasts with the media’s more sympathetic view of religion in the past. Cupp notes that its wasn’t that long ago that The New York Times urged Americans to pray for the stranded crew of Apollo 13 and television stations signed off their broadcasts with a prayer and the Navy hymn.

Cupp says the situation is dire because Americans’ fundamental freedoms are at stake.
