Rand Paul’s Festivus airing of grievances kicked off earlier today, and he has a lot of them–including Mitch McConnell’s reluctance to lend him his bomb sweater-vest, and Cory Booker STILL not retweeting him enough.
It’s a hard-knock life.
He started things off with a little explainer and some general complaints about Washington:
Christmas is a time for joy. For sharing blessings w/family & friends. It is not a time to air grievances. That’s what #Festivus is for.

I’ve got a lot of problems with you people (mostly in DC), and today you’re going to hear about it! Stayed tuned for #Festivus grievances

First, politics in general: As a Doctor, I was trained first to do no harm. Wouldn’t it be nice if politicians started from that premise?
— Senator Rand Paul (@SenRandPaul) December 23, 2014
But we get”politics is the art of looking 4 trouble, finding it everywhere, diagnosing it incorrectly&applying wrong remedies.” #Festivus

Threw some shade on one of BuzzFeed’s political reporters:
That’s a Groucho Marx quote by the way @BuzzFeedAndrew, you can stop googling #Festivus

Talked about his unlikely friendship with Cory Booker:
Last year in the spirit of #Festivus, I reached out to @CoryBooker complaining he didn’t RT me enough. He still doesn’t by the way. But…
— Senator Rand Paul (@SenRandPaul) December 23, 2014
We discussed hemp, med marijuana, crim justice reform. Some of that has now passed, all of it we’ve worked on together this year #Festivus
— Senator Rand Paul (@SenRandPaul) December 23, 2014
My grievance there though remains the same. Not enough looking for agreement in Washington. @CoryBooker and I will keep trying.#Festivus

But he really got going once he dove into 2016 fashion and his trademark mock turtlenecks:
No matter how many times I ask @Team_Mitch, he won’t let me borrow this awesome sweater vest pic.twitter.com/VACHu6RdVY
— Senator Rand Paul (@SenRandPaul) December 23, 2014
(Can we count that as a sly presidential announcement?)
Finally he took a parting shot at Marco Rubio, whom he attempted to engage in a Twitter war last week:
And, thankfully, promised more to come. Stay tuned!
