Melissa McCarthy returned to host Saturday Night Live for the third time last night, and she brought the beloved psychopathic character Sheila Kelly — now a newly-elected Congresswoman — with her.
Kelly, played by McCarthy, was once the head female basketball coach at Middle Delaware State, where she berated and assaulted the players to intimidate them into playing well. The spoof was created in response to the real-life abusive behavior of Rutgers men’s basketball coach Mike Rice. This week, Kelly returned to the spotlight as a Delware Congresswoman — with all her violent tendencies in tow.
After a Delaware One news reporter questioned Kelly about possible illegal fundraising, she viciously and relentlessly attacked the reporter.
“You ever been thrown out a window, bro?” the faux Congresswoman shot angrily at the reporter. “Because you know what? When I do it, I don’t open it first. You go down with the glass!”
The SNL sketch was a nod to the recent outburst by Rep. Michael Grimm (R-N.Y.) after the State of the Union address, where he threatened to throw a reporter off a balcony.
But Grimm’s verbal assault was tame compared to Kelly’s. After threatening the Delaware One reporter, Kelly confronted the still-recording cameraman, bashing him on the head with the camera while screaming, “I am freshman Congressman Sheila Kelly, and I am invincible!”
Kelly then ran down a passerby who had started recording the incident on his cell phone.
“Are you f***ing filming me on that phone?” she shouted as she chased him.
And that was only the beginning of Kelly’s rage-fueled antics.
