Christmas is here, and some high school girls basketball teams have more to celebrate than others today.

Seton Keough (8-2) is at the top of that list after the Gators scored a 48-47 victory over Arundel (3-2) Friday in one of the biggest non-conference games of the season. Keough led by 13 heading into the fourth quarter, but Arundel rallied to pull the score to 46-44. With 10 seconds remaining, senior Kathy McLaughlin put the Gators up by four after hitting two foul shots. The Wildcats closed the gap to a point after a three-pointer from Ayanna Randolph, but that?s where the game ended.

Sophomore center Asya Bussie led the Gators with 14 points, while junior guard Arika Ullman scored 12 and McLaughlin had 11. Randolph led Arundel with 13 points, and sophomore guard Ashley Davis had 12.

Mount Hebron bounced back from a three-point loss to River Hill earlier in the week to defeat Centennial, 54-39, on Friday. Jill Rekart led the way with 17 points, and Deanna Dydinski added 11.

The Vikings? home win makes the race in Howard County interesting, putting Mount Hebron and Centennial at 5-1 while Atholton is on top at 6-0. River Hill improved to 4-1 with a lopsided 70-45 win over Wilde Lake Friday.

Baltimore City saw its share of blowouts Thursday as City, Digital Harbor, Edmondson, Poly, Southside and Western all enjoyed big wins. City, Digital Harbor and Poly all won by at least 40 points, while the others won by an average of 27.

In the Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference, Harford County?s Joppatowne wentinto its winter break with a 67-33 win over Rising Sun. The host Mariners (4-1) enjoyed 14 points apiece from Destinee Macklin and Sasha Matthew, while Arielle Towns chipped in 11 and Ashley Marshall added 10.

Townes, a senior guard, is leading Joppatowne in scoring with 16.8 points a game.
