Oh, those Hollywood actors … they just have so much charm.

Ryan Gosling (“The Notebook,” “Half Nelson,” “Lars and the Real Girl”) swung through town Tuesday to speak at Campus Progress’ national conference on “Confronting Genocide and Mass Atrocities,” but it wasn’t that topic that had his heart; rather, it was his co-panelist, Betty Bigombe, a senior fellow at the United States Institute of Peace.

“You really look beautiful in that color,” Gosling told Bigombe in front of the whole crowd. But the charmer was just warming up. “It’s no secret that I have a huge crush on you,” he went on to say.

And when Gosling tried to pay attention to his real task at hand — to ask Bigombe questions about her experiences trying to negotiate a peace agreement in Uganda — his mind still drifted back to his little crush.

“What do you look for in a guy?” he asked, adding later: “I’m single, by the way.”

The whole spectacle was enough to make moderator John Prendergast tell the audience: “I’d like to remind the audience that this is a seminar about genocide.”
