My day’s been a little weird,” admitted Serena Williams at a news conference Tuesday, just two hours before taking the court for the first time as a member of the Washington Kastles.

Understandably so. “I woke up in Paris [she lives there part-time], I was in London for a few hours, now I’m in D.C.,” she said. Williams landed at Dulles only two hours before hosting a clinic for area kids (including those of Mayor Adrian Fenty and Councilman Jack Evans).
But she still had a sense of humor. After telling reporters she was “disappointed” with her loss to sister Venus in the Wimbledon finals, she marveled how World Team Tennis “attracts a lot of marquee players. You have Venus Williams, who’s won five Wimbledons, I believe.”
