No surprise, Haynesworth a no-show

As expected, Albert Haynesworth was a no-show at the Redskins mandatory minicamp Wednesday, which was cut short by rain.

The most significant news from the session came from coach Mike Shanahan. He said that before the Redskins paid Haynesworth $21 million on April 1, he was given the option of finding a new team. If Haynesworth found a taker, the Redskins would grant him his release, in exchange for not paying.

Shanahan expressed displeasure at Haynesworth’s absence.

“Obviously he took the check, so I was surprised he wasn’t here today,” said Shanahan.

Many players, including London Fletcher and Phillip Daniels, were very critical of Haynesworth.

DeAngelo Hall, however, who said he had a one-hour conversation last night with Haynesworth, expressed some support for the disgruntled defensive tackle.

Camp continues tomorrow. Shanahan said that it would not be extended to Friday to make up for Wednesday’s rainout.
