Cheers & Jeers » On the radar: It’s a rocky road ahead for Hoyas

Georgetown’s gauntlet » Another tough week for No. 9 Georgetown. But then again, what’s new in the Big East? The Hoyas (10-2) have already played at No. 5 Connecticut and No. 13 Notre Dame and hosted No. 1 Pittsburgh. They also faced No. 15 Tennessee in a non-conference game on a neutral floor. Wednesday night, No. 11 Syracuse brings its 14-1 record to Verizon Center. The Orange is already 4-0 in Big East play and Georgetown, 2-2 in the conference, can’t afford to fall further behind. The Hoyas then must travel to Cameron Indoor Stadium to play No. 2 Duke (12-1) in a big non-conference game Saturday afternoon.

Midseason push » With the All-Star game looming, the Caps (27-13-3, 57 points) have one last full week before the break. They host Edmonton on Tuesday at Verizon Center before a showdown the next night at struggling Pittsburgh. The Penguins (20-19-4, 44 points) are in a freefall just seven months after reaching the Stanley Cup finals with eight losses in their last 10 games. The Caps then host the Eastern Conference’s best team when the Boston Bruins (31-7-4, 66 points) visit the District on Saturday.

And finally … » The Wizards (7-29), meanwhile, host Milwaukee (18-21) tonight at Verizon Center and then play a home-and-home series with the New York Knicks (13-22) on Wednesday and Friday.
