With a half hour to go before kickoff between D.C. United and New England, I’ve already consumed somewhere near a half gallon of water. I’m just getting started.
Regardless of the oppressive conditions, there’s soccer to be played between nearly in-form D.C. and the positively struggling Revolution.
The only change for D.C. from last weekend’s scoreless draw at FC Dallas is Josh Wolff’s return to the starting 11 and the captain’s armband, sending Joseph Ngwenya back to the bench.
The full starters: Hamid; Kitchen, White, McDonald, Woolard; Najar, Simms, De Rosario, Pontius; Wolff, Davies.
The match will be the D.C. swan song for Fred, but he’ll still start on the bench, as will newly-acquired midfielder Austin da Luz. D.C. won’t have youngster midfielder Conor Shanosky, who’s been sent on load for one match to third-division Harrisburg City Islanders for tonight’s USL home game against FC New York.
Revolution players will all wear black armbands tonight in tribute to the late Myra Kraft, wife of Revolution and Patriots owner Bob Kraft, who passed away this morning.
One other bit of news: it appears that graduated Georgetown midfielder Seth C’deBaca’s inclusion in D.C. United’s first team practices of late is more than just a member of the United under-23 roster helping to fill out numbers. Instead, it appears to be an actual trial. I’m awaiting more details.
