Two things we just don’t like about the World Cup and soccer: bad referees and players who act as if they’ve been shot after what would qualify as a love tap in other sports. We saw both in one game.
In Brazil’s 3-1 win over Ivory Coast, Kaka received a yellow card (his second, earning him a red card and one-game suspension) after one of the worst flops of all-time. Ivory Coast’s Kader Keita ran into him while running for the ball. Kaka had raised his arm to brace for contact, but there wasn’t a whole lot. And there was zero contact with his face.

Still, Keita fell to the ground, covering his face as if death was near. It was a bigger flop than “Gigli.” But the official ran over, looked at him, listened to the goalie complain and then handed out the yellow card. If not for the blown call in the U.S. match vs. Slovenia, it would rank as the worst call of the tournament. Sadly, it has a lot of competition.
