The Georgetown Hoyas enter another tough Big East matchup tonight, hosting Villanova. Following a road loss to Louisville on Saturday, the Hoyas are hoping to rebound by continuing their unbeaten streak on their home court. All three Georgetown losses this season have come on the road.
The song remains the same » Georgetown head coach John Thompson III’s refrain over the course of the season includes a heavy emphasis on “getting better.”
“We didn’t look like we had improved from our previous week to our last game,” said Thompson following the Hoyas’ difficult win over lowly South Florida last week. “Now we have to show that we can improve from the last game to our upcoming game.”
Yet the Hoyas’ third defeat of the season, suffered over the weekend at Louisville, looked eerily similar to the first two, another road game in which Georgetown had a decent, if not solid first half, but couldn’t handle the pressure down the stretch. The Hoyas (19-3, 9-2 Big East), who maintain a slim edge atop the conference standings, are a combined 2 of 28 (7.1 percent) from behind the 3-point line in the second half of their three losses.
Hey hey what they can do » Villanova (14-8, 4-6) has never lost at Verizon Center, a stretch of six games. Last year Herndon native Scottie Reynolds scored a team-high 16 points in a Wildcats victory, although the Hoyas went on to beat Villanova in Philadelphia and in New York during the Big East Tournament.
Reynolds (16.8 points, 3.6 assists per game) has scored in double figures in all but two games this season.
