A few Clinton Portis highlights from today’s press conference following the end of the first minicamp:
On Willie Parker and Larry Johnson being on the roster » “We’ll find a way to make it work. That’s the beauty. Some people say you can never have too much and some people say there’s not enough balls to go around. The situation will work itself out. Everyone will add a different dimension.”

On if he feels more committed than in years past » “I actually do. It’s a difference when you say commitment and you want someone to buy into a system that you don’t believe in. Having coach [Mike] Shanahan here you believe in whatever he says. If he tells you i think that we can jump off the roof and land safe, it’s like, ‘[Bleep] it, let’s jump.’ You buy into it. He’s a proven coach. He’s a proven leader. He’ll get the best out of his guys. He’ll approach you like a man and tell you what he wants from you and he’ll get it done.”
On where he’s at in his career for those wondering how much he has left » “I say keep wondering, man. I’m at the point of being tired of proving myself. Six of the eight years I’ve been in the NFL I’ve been consistent. You get wrote off so quick and people get tired of having a mainstay. I sat this offseason and had a chance to think, like all the stuff I’ve done for this organization. I always put the organization on my back and gave it everything I had and it’s still like I’m an outcast, ‘Get Portis out of here.’ Like I’m the reason the Redskins weren’t winning. I was the guy who tried and gave everything I had to bring joy to this organization and to feel like everyone wants you out, to not have the back and everyone is turning their back. I got a concussion and I got hurt making a tackle, then I get a concussion. It’s not like I’m sitting out here and getting hurt, hurt, hurt and you can say Portis don’t got it. But I say for all the naysayers and haters, they finally opened my eyes this offseason. That’s the motivation I needed, just to feel like it’s me against the world again. Everyone, all the media outlets who wanted me out of here I have something for you all. I’ll stay patient and let you all see. I’ll let my work speak for itslef.”
