COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed defenseman Ryan Murray to a three-year, entry-level contract with the team.

The Blue Jackets made the announcement Tuesday. The 18-year-old Murray, who was the second overall pick in last month’s NHL Draft, was the team’s first pick.

Murray scored nine goals and 22 assists for 31 points and had 31 penalty minutes in 46 games with the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League in 2011-12. He was the team’s Rookie of the Year in 2009-10.

Murray is from White City, Saskatchewan, in Canada.
