Where are they now?: Courtney O?Hara, Softball

As a talented “slap hitter,” Courtney O?Hara served as the catalyst for the Institute of Notre Dame softball team.

Now in her first year on the University of Maryland-Baltimore County softball team, O?Hara is anxious to provide steady run production as the center fielder for the Retrievers.

“I have been playing softball since I was 10, and this is like the first job that I actually have fun doing,” O?Hara said, jokingly. “There is a lot more competition in college, but personally I think I am getting better each game and that?s all you can really ask for.”

Notre Dame softball coach Greg Ehrman felt O?Hara showcased the ability to perform with relative ease as a freshman, and gradually learned how to drive the ball to all parts of the field.

“When she came in as a freshman she was pretty advanced with her skills and she had great speed,” Ehrman said.

O?Hara, an accomplished switch-hitter with 2.6 speed to first base, was one of the top prep players in the area from 2002-04.

“Courtney is one of the fastest and quickest softball players in the state of Maryland,” UMBC head softball coach Joe French said. “She is a triple threat type of hitter, as she can bunt, slap, and hit with line-drive power from both sides.”
