But is the rivalry too hot?
That was the question after Good Counsel won its second straight WCAC title 42-3 on Sunday in Annapolis.
With Good Counsel leading 35-3 late in the fourth quarter, first-string quarterback Zach Dancel was still in the game and threw a touchdown pass when he perhaps should have been handing off.
Bad sportsmanship is nothing new in this rivalry. After DeMatha won the 2008 title game 34-7, avenging a 42-21 national TV loss, several Stags raced up the stands to rip down Good Counsel banners after getting though the handshake line.
With that act, DeMatha tarnished its 2008 victory, just as Good Counsel did Sunday by running up the score.
