Iraq is more dangerous than even Baltimore

Why would HBO and the Brookings Institution show the second episode of “Generation Kill” at the premiere of the seven-part miniseries Tuesday night?

“Just to annoy you,” joked David Simon, creator of the inner-city Baltimore drama “The Wire” and co-writer and executive producer of the new project.

The miniseries is the true story of U.S. Marines involved in the invasion of Iraq in 2003. Simon said the miniseries is meant to show the point of view of the Marines and does not editorialize or use Hollywood liberties.

“There’s nothing you guys can to do to us tonight that can scare us because a few weeks ago we showed these same episodes to the actual Marines depicted here,” Simon said. “Having said that, the Marines watched [it], and none of us were beaten up.”
