Among those who missed the cut in the Kingsmill Championship, the most surprising was Cristie Kerr, the only two-time winner in event history (2005, 2009). It is just her fourth missed cut in the last five years. Coming off top-15 finishes in her previous three events, Kerr shot 72-74 – 146 at Kingsmill (+4).
Other name players who won’t be here on the weekend are Juli Inkster (even), Fairfax’s Jenny Suh (+1), Brittany Lincicome (+2), in her first missed cut since March, Solheim Cup player Ryan O’Toole (+3), Sophie Gustafson (+4), Michelle Wie (+4), Veronica Felibert (+5), Morgan Pressel (+6), University of Virginia player Whitney Neuhauser (+6), and last but not least, 40-year-old Leta Lindley (+2), who played her last event after 18 LPGA seasons. She is retiring to spend more time with her two children.
“I know it’s time,” Lindley said. “It doesn’t make it any less sad.”
The short-hitting, modestly-talented, 105-pound Lindley carved out a successful career, winning more than $3 million on the tour. Her husband is her longtime caddie, but with her children in elementary school and unable to travel with them, she decided to quit.
“Cole is 8 and Reese is 6,” Lindley said. “Before I know it, they’re going to be out of the house and I just don’t want to miss any more of that. So it’s time to create some different memories.”
