Boys? Latin bests St. Paul?s in showdown

It was an event in Brooklandville Saturday, as the St. Paul?s Spring Fling coincided with one of the biggest lacrosse games so far this season in the A Conference of the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association.

Visiting and top-ranked Boys? Latin downed No. 2 St. Paul?s, 15-8. With the win, the Lakers (13-1, 6-0 league) took sole possession of first place in the conference and the Crusaders (12-2, 5-1) slipped back to second place.

“We played an absolutely great game,” Boys? Latin head coach Bob Shriver said. “That is as good as we have played in the last two years, other than the championship game last year. We played great lacrosse today.”

Maryland-bound attackman Travis Reed lit up the nets for Boys? Latin with four goals and added two assists. Fellow senior attackman Brett Weiss had two goals and four assists.

“If you give them a few openings they can really hurt you.? Shriver said.

Josh Perlow scored twice, while Kyle Frank and D.J. Rickels each had a goal and an assist and Jack Dudley, Mark Field, Tyler Silvey, Eric Smith and Tim Sutton all scored once.

Senior Chris Clements and junior Adam Johnston led St. Paul?s with three goals apiece while Thomas Galvin and Cliff Larkin each pitched in one score. D.J. Hessler had two assists for the Crusaders with Galvin and Justin Donati contributing one each.

In girls? lacrosse action, Fallston got the best of Harford County rival Bel Air, 9-7, on Friday. It is the second time Fallston (5-2) has bested the Bobcats (6-2) this season. The visiting Cougars got three goals from sophomore Monica Fisher and two from senior midfielder and Towson University commitment Gabby Antinozzi. Bel Air?s Kelly Taylor scored three goals in the loss.

Baltimore Lutheran also got a win on Friday, with an 8-7 victory in overtime, denying Mount Carmel its first win of the year. Junior Maija Eshmont led the Saints (8-2, 7-1 C Conference) in the game with four goals. Jessica Celmer and Melissa Walters each scored three goals for Mount Carmel (0-11, 0-9).
