Cowboys Dez-tined to regret this pick

There’s a reason teams focus so heavily on character before the NFL Draft. There’s a reason team officials don’t sleep well when they draft players with more red flags than a communist convention. The reason? Dez Bryant.

The Dallas receiver is being sued in various lawsuits for nearly $850,000 combined — most of it spent on jewelry. Foolishly spending money does not make him a bad guy. But it puts him down a path that stresses teams. What’s next? Because you know there’s always a next.

Bryant has had other issues that reflect his immaturity and decision-making. Deion Sanders tried to mentor him while Bryant was at Oklahoma State. Not anymore. Instead he speaks the truth.

“I would have been worried about Dez Bryant before I made the pick,” Sanders told KTCK-AM 1310 in Texas.

It’s a lesson every team must heed again next month. Some will learn; others will pay the price. Handing millions of dollars to character risks is never a good idea.
