Media expects FSU, Va. Tech to roll in ACC

Maryland, Virginia football picked to finish next to last in respective divisions

Florida State and Virginia Tech are overwhelming choices to win Atlantic Coast Conference division titles, according to 71 media members at the ACC Football Kickoff at Pinehurst Resort.

In the Atlantic Division, Florida State got 65 first-place votes to four for Clemson and two for Boston College. Maryland, picked fifth in the six-team league, failed to receive a first-place vote and was chosen ahead of only Wake Forest.

Virginia Tech (66 first place votes) far out-distanced Miami (four) and Georgia Tech (one) in the Coastal Division. Virginia was picked to finish fifth, ahead of only Duke.

Florida State (50) was picked to win the conference ahead of Virginia Tech (18), Clemson (two) and Boston College (one).

Boston College running back Montel Harris (26) is the preseason player of the year pick ahead of Florida State quarterback E.J. Manuel (14) and BC linebacker Luke Kuechly (12). Virginia Tech back David Wilson (eight) and Maryland quarterback Danny O’Brien (four) were next in the voting.
