4. DE Christian Ballard » He’s more athletic than fellow Iowa end Adrian Clayborn, yet some view Ballard as a “tease” because that athleticism did not result in great play. Still, don’t be surprised if you hear that his stock is rising. He could be a combine star.
3. DL Nick Fairley » Like his Auburn teammate Cam Newton, Fairley must do well in the interview portion. He’s also viewed as a one-season wonder and there are other defensive linemen scouts think have more upside. Yet Fairley is pegged as a top-five pick.
2. QB Christian Ponder » He’s intriguing, especially for the Redskins as a potential second-round pick. Ponder can make the necessary throws and has the right intangibles. But, because he’s had elbow and shoulder injuries, the medical exams will be crucial.
1. QB Cam Newton » The fact that he’s throwing is fine, but everyone already knows he has a rocket arm and is athletic. His main focus should be on acing the interviews with teams. No doubt he’s been prepped on the questions. The big key is how he answers when teams veer off the script.
