Will the Skins still try to make a splash?

The Redskins can still make a big move. That is, if they want.

With approximately $8 million under the salary cap, the Redskins could make the so-called big splash; perhaps more via a trade.

One team source called that scenario unlikely. But the Redskins, based on possible compensatory picks, could have as many as nine draft choices in April. That, combined with cap room, could lead to activity. One NFC general manager said in some deals for a receiver, they might have to part with a good player of their own — like Santana Moss, for instance.

Here are three players who they could trade for:

Chad Johnson » This, of course, assumes the Bengals change their mind about trading the disgruntled receiver. Trading him would result in an approximately $8 million cap hit. So this could be something Johnson’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, tries to engineer with little success.

“I don’t see that coming to fruition,” the GM said.

Anquan Boldin » Profootballtalk.com speculated that Boldin will be upset by Larry Fitzgerald’s new contract, or by how much it dwarfs his own deal. Boldin is represented by Rosenhaus, who has a good relationship with Snyder. The Cardinals need defensive help and teams don’t need two elite receivers to win, not with a run-first coach.

Jason Taylor » The Dolphins say they’re not planning to trade Taylor. Of course they would say that; it lessens his value if they say otherwise. Taylor wants out and would like to go to a non-rebuilding team. Washington would love to add a pass-rushing end. Another tie: Taylor’s agent, Gary Wichard, is tight with Redskins executive vice president Vinny Cerrato.

“I could see Miami doing something,” one NFC executive said.
