Miguel Tejada might be returning sooner than expected.
Just two weeks after the Orioles reported Tejada would be away from baseball activities for a month, the shortstop is optimistic he can return by the end of the July.

“We?re going to go day-by-day,” Tejada said of his rehabilitation.
Tejada said he plans to do some light baseball activities within a few days, but still can?t swing a bat.
Tejada was placed on the 15-day disabled list June 23 with a fractured left wrist, which came on a Doug Brocail pitch June 21, ending his streak of 1,152 consecutive games.
“Its hard. During [batting practice], I have to stay in [the clubhouse],” Tejada said. “Its hard, because I?ve never been in that situation.”
He plans to stay with the team through his rehabilitation.
BAEZ BACK IN FOLD: Right-handed reliever Danys Baez was activated from the 15-day disabled list before Thursday?s game. To make room, the club optioned left-hander Kurt Birkins to Triple-A Norfolk.
Baez, who went on the disabled list June 17 with a strained right forearm, has gained confidence in throwing curveballs, sinkers and sliders, which had all been affected by his injury.
“I?ve been working trying to get those pitches back and use more of my forearm,” Baez said. “That was doing bad things to my mechanics, too.”
He made three appearances at Double-A Bowie after going 0-4 with a 6.52 ERA in 31 games with the Orioles.
Baez has no expectations for the second half, except to come out and work hard.
“The most important thing is that I feel more confident now with my pitches,” Baez said. “There?s no soreness or tightness or anything.”
GETTING BACK ON TRACH-SEL: Steve Trachsel could be back with the team next week, provided his rehab start Saturday at Single-A Frederick goes well. Trachsel, placed on the 15-day disabled list June 30 with a strained gluteus muscle, is anxious to return to the mound at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
“I threw on the worst mound I?ve thrown on in 15 years in Frederick [Wednesday],” Trachsel said. “If I didn?t tweak it on that mound, I?ll be fine.”
