Who says Washingtonians aren’t funny? Comedian/local gal Erin Jackson, who has lived in D.C. for 10 years, is hoping to change our town’s “More To Laugh At Than To Laugh With” reputation with her recent appearances all over NBC and Comedy Central.

Her “Live at Gotham” special airs on Comedy Central on Friday, and you can catch her on NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” on Thursday performing in Las Vegas as part of the show’s semifinals.

We lobbed a few softball questions at her to test her comedic chops:

How can politicians inject a bit more humor into their stump speeches? “Forget humor, [John] McCain needs to inject moreattendees into his stump speeches. Maybe he could do his speeches in front of a green screen and they could superimpose an [Barack] Obama rally behind him.” What do you make of President Bush’s comedic skills? “Bush’s chops … Hmmmm … President Bush is like a bad prop comic. … The act isn’t really funny, but you stick around to see what he’s gonna pull out of the suitcase next.”

Who’s funnier: Obama or McCain? “Barack hands down. He’s a black man running for president who quotes Jay-Z and gives his wife a fist pound before a victory speech … on national TV. That’s hilarious. You can’t beat it.”
