Cindy feeling the Rhythm of the Night

Only a few among us may still remember El DeBarge and his stream of mid-80s, feel-good R&B hits. Cindy McCain does.

DeBarge’s “Rhythm of the Night” was among a dozen songs the potential future first lady provided to her daughter Meghan as part of a play list for Meghan’s McCain Blogette site. Lady McCain’s tastes run from standard middle-aged mom fare (“Time of My Life” from “Dirty Dancing”; James Taylor’s “You’ve Got a Friend”) to some classic rock (“Nights in White Satin” by the Moody Blues; the Doobie Brothers’ “Take Me In Your Arms (Rock Me A Little While)”). Don’t forget Israel Kamakawiwo’ole’s version of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” which Meghan calls their “special mother/daughter song.”

But how then to square this with Meghan’s insistence that her mom is a huge fan of Cream, and in fact went to London to see the power trio’s long-awaited reunion two years ago? Maybe Cindy’s got some musical cred after all.
