Spokesman Rui Costa says Borges emailed a Portuguese Olympic official saying she couldn’t compete in Tuesday’s opening races due to illness and personal matters. Costa says that after medical personnel weren’t able to contact her to confirm her story, her accreditation was canceled.
She is married to American sailor Mark Mendelblatt, who’s competing in the Star class.
