Left tackle Trent Williams won’t have a chance to test his knee today, thanks to rain that chased the Redskins indoors. But he said it wouldn’t have mattered; he was going to practice and he’s preparing to play vs. Indianapolis on Sunday.
Williams said he will play.
“I’m feeling good; it’s just a minor setback,” Williams said.
The Redskins need him to better combat Colts end Dwight Freeney, who has three sacks and 77 for his career. Williams already has faced Dallas’ DeMarcus Ware and Houston’s Mario Williams. But Trent Williams said based on studying film, Freeney throws more moves at blockers than anyone else.
“I don’t know if anyone in the world can prepare you for Freeney,” Williams said. “He’s a different type of guy. He brings a load of different moves. You have to study him; even with that you still aren’t really safe because he brings everything.”
And then some.
“It’s nerve-racking, you definitely think about it before you go to sleep at night,” Williams said. “He’s that dominant of a player. We have to do some things that can neutralize the rush… What I’ve seen so far, I haven’t seen anybody like him.”
By the way, Williams said he’s a little surprised that he’ll be able to play after how his injury appeared on Sunday. But I also remember one thing former trainer Bubba Tyer used to say: sometimes the worse the injury appears, the better it is. When it’s real bad, a body goes into shock.
“When it initially happened, it felt worse than it is,” he said. “I’m blessed to be able to walk after seeing the play. It brought chills down my spine when I seen it on film. It feels a lot better than it looked.”
