Prepsters prepare for trip to Yard

The All-Star game is returning to Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

But you will not see Derek Jeter, David Ortiz or Albert Pujols there on June 25.

The Brooks Robinson Maryland High School All-Star Game will be held June 25, after the Orioles play the Washington Nationals. Thirty of the best high school seniors in Maryland will play in the 25th installment of the State All-star game.

“This is the 25th [game], so that tells me that I am getting real old,” Robinson said Thursday during a news conference at the Camden Club. The roster for both teams, North and South, was announced.

“I enjoy doing it,” said Robinson, a Major League Hall of Famer. Robinson has been affiliated with the game since 1982.

“My favorite part of it is getting up there and shaking hands with the kids that come up here and giving them a few words of encouragement,” Robinson said.

Neal Davis, the Orioles 39th-round pick Wednesday, was named as a pitcher for the North team.

“This means a lot,” Davis said. “Brooks Robinson is the best third baseman ever. It is an honor to come here today, shake his hand and meet him for the first time.”

Calvert Hall coach Lou Eckerl just won back-to-back MIAA A Conference championships and will be a coach for the North team. “It is a pretty good honor to have a chance to coach some really talented kids all together at once,” he said.
