George Washington (16-14) makes its first appearance in the postseason since 2007, playing in the 16-team College Basketball Invitational. VCU (22-9) has had a strange season, going 0-7 in the Colonial Athletic Association in games decided by single-digit margins and 12-0 in CAA games decided by 13 or more points. VCU is led by 6-foot-11 center Larry Sanders (14.6 ppg, 9 rpg) and point guard Joey Rodriguez (12.2 ppg, 5.8 apg). Winner will play Eastern Kentucky (20-12) or College of Charleston (21-11).

In its opener in the 16-team CollegeInsider.com tournament — which is limited to teams from mid-major conferences — George Mason (17-13) looks to put a positive ending on a season gone south after losing seven of its last nine. Fairfield (22-10) made a strong bid for the MAAC title, taking Siena to OT in the championship game before falling, 72-65. Fairfield is led by freshman guard Derek Needham (16.3 ppg, 5.2 apg), senior forward Anthony Johnson (15.7 ppg, 9.9 rpg), and junior forward Yorel Hawkins (14.6 ppg, 5.5 rpg). Winner will play Harvard (21-7) or Appalachian State (22-10).
